Bringing elegance to rail travel
Sit. Recline. Sleep. Arrive.
A train seat is the only seat in transport with a view worth six hours of attention.
As short-haul flying gives way to rail, journeys get longer. This project asks what a seat looks like when it has to work for a whole working day: upright for the first hour, reclined for the third, asleep by the fifth, and never once turning its back on the window.
That is why the thinking draws on hospitality, not transport. The aim is a space you want to spend time in, while watching the world whiz past the window.
Colour, Material and Finish
Materials that once felt too delicate for rail are now made to last. That opens the door to an interior chosen for how it feels, not just how well it survives. Plush velvet gives the seat the softness of a hotel armchair. Chocolate leathers wrap the arms and the edges your hands keep coming back to, and they age well with use. Textured wood laminates bring warmth and grain to the table and console without the weight or upkeep of solid timber. Against all that warmth sits a rich dark blue, deep and calm, which holds the palette together and comes into its own as the light fades outside.
